Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a beautiful engagement session, starting at the Marble Church (Frederik’s Church), continuing through Amalienborg Palace, and finishing at the iconic Nyhavn waterfront. This session was filled with warmth, love, and the soft hues of early autumn, making it the perfect setting for romantic engagement photography in Denmark’s capital.

Starting at the Marble Church in Copenhagen

Our morning began outside the stunning Marble Church (Marmorkirken), a historic and picturesque landmark with grand architecture that makes it one of Copenhagen’s top engagement photoshoot spots. The Marble Church is known for its magnificent dome and intricately detailed façade, which adds an elegant touch to photos. In the early morning light, this spot feels particularly magical—the quiet streets and soft sunlight make for an intimate and serene experience, perfect for capturing tender moments.

From the Marble Church, we took a short walk to Amalienborg Palace, the official residence of the Danish royal family. This majestic square, surrounded by grand palaces, has a distinct regal atmosphere, making it a fantastic spot for couples looking for a touch of elegance in their engagement photos.

Amalienborg’s open plaza allowed us to play with the morning light, which cast a gentle glow on the cobblestone streets and added a beautiful warmth to the images. We concluded the photoshoot in Nyhavn, one of Copenhagen’s most iconic locations. Known for its vibrant, colorful buildings lining the canal, Nyhavn is a favorite among tourists. The lively waterfront setting added a playful atmosphere to the photos, contrasting beautifully with the more serene moments captured earlier.

Last year I photographed this adorable American couple during their stay in Denmark. This was their first time in the Danish capital, so they chose the most iconic spot in the city as one of the backdrops to their engagement photo session in Copenhagen, Nyhavn. After taking a few shots with the beautiful colorful houses by Nyhavn’s canals, we headed to Christianshavn, one of Copenhagen’s most picturesque neighborhoods. What I love about these two spots is that they are both photogenic and very close in proximity, so we can easily fit these two locations into a one-hour engagement session.
Copenhagen is an old maritime city, so if you are visiting it soon, I strongly recommend a boat tour down its canals. It’s one of the most enjoyable ways to see the city and offers a completely different perspective.

Christianshavn

In Christianshavn, we explored the narrow cobbled streets, breathing in all the coziness this neighborhood has to offer. Being central and full of cafés and restaurants, Christianshavn is one of the most desirable Copenhagen areas to live in. This is a “must” for anyone visiting Copenhagen.
We finished our session at a charming little coffee shop, Café Les Amis, where they enjoyed a warm cup of coffee and some delicious pastries. They were lucky to find a place to sit outside as this cozy place is very popular among locals, offering a true “hygge” experience.
I had a great time photographing these two lovebirds and wish them all the best in their new lives as husband and wife! 

wedding ceremony at Amaliehaven

If you are getting married in Copenhagen, civil wedding ceremonies are usually held at the beautiful Copenhagen City Hall. But the municipality of Copenhagen also offers alternative wedding locations to those who wish to get married outdoors. Amager Strand, Bibliotekshaven, Byoasen, Amaliehaven. Wedding photo shoot in Copenhagen

After the quick wedding ceremony at Amaliehaven, the three of us walked to Amalienborg Palace, Nyhavn and some nearby places to do some wedding portraits. Copenhagen was full of Danish fans wearing their red jerseys because later that day Denmark would play Czech Republic in the UEFA-Euro quarter-finals. Our stop in Nyhavn was a little bit intimidating for Diana and Fabien, as as you can imagine, all bars and restaurants along the canal were packed with fans drinking since eleven in the morning. So as our lovely couple posed for the photographer, fifteen guys were shouting and singing in the background. Romantic, right? But despite the football chaos, our wedding photo session in Copenhagen was a success. Her stunning bouquet of roses and orchids from Holly Flower Studio added a special touch to the photos. The connection between these two was palpable and so beautiful to see and photograph. I’m so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet them and be chosen as their elopement photographer in Copenhagen.
