A Copenhagen Wedding with a Canal Boat Tour

Last summer I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful and intimate wedding at Mogens Dahl Koncertsal, a venue that combines elegance, great food, and a warm atmosphere right in the heart of the city.

The celebrations started near the waterfront by The Black Diamond, where the couple met their guests for a canal boat tour through Copenhagen.

Canal tours are actually a very popular thing to do for weddings in Copenhagen, especially during the summer months. Many couples choose to bring their guests on a boat ride right after the ceremony instead of arranging traditional transportation.

It’s such a fun and relaxed way to move everyone from the ceremony to the reception location, while also giving guests a little tour of the city. As the boat glides through the canals, everyone gets to enjoy some of Copenhagen’s most beautiful views, from historic buildings to houseboats and lively harbor spots.

For guests visiting from abroad, it’s often one of the highlights of the day. Seeing the city from the water gives a completely different perspective and creates a lovely moment for everyone to relax together before the evening celebration.

After the canal tour, the boat dropped us off at Islands Brygge. From there, it was just a short walk to Mogens Dahl Koncertsal. Guests were welcomed with drinks and time to mingle before dinner.

An Intimate Wedding Celebration

This was an intimate wedding, with around 50 guests. Close friends and family gathered to celebrate the couple.

The evening continued with an amazing dinner, speeches, and lots of laughter. Smaller weddings like this always feel extra special. There’s something really lovely about a celebration where everyone knows each other and the couple gets to truly spend time with their guests.

Elopement at Copenhagen City Hall

Let’s start with the bride, the lovely Vlada – elegant and absolutely radiant. Every wedding photographer’s dream. Her dress perfectly matched the city’s timeless charm while showcasing her own refined style. Vlada and Andreas were waiting for me at Copenhagen City Hall, where we started the wedding coverage with a swift yet incredibly meaningful civil ceremony. After the civil ceremony, Copenhagen City Hall set the stage for some intimate wedding portraits. Each shot captured the couple’s genuine connection, and the grand halls of Copenhagen City Hall provided a stunning backdrop for their wedding photos.

After the ceremony, we set out to explore the streets of Copenhagen. Every narrow alley and picturesque square offered opportunities for candid and authentic shots. This allows them to fully immerse themselves in the moment, without any other worries. The typical wedding day pressures are gone, and this experience is truly amazing.

From the quick civil ceremony to our stroll through Copenhagen’s streets, we made sure to capture every moment with love and skill. I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely Danish couple in Copenhagen this summer for a wedding portrait session at Frederiksberg Gardens. It’s a stunning green space in the city, ideal for family or wedding photography, and it provided the perfect backdrop for their special day. Genuine Connection: The Key to Heartfelt Wedding Photography

I had a great time photographing these two. The love and connection between them were so tangible, which really made my job as a wedding photographer so much easier. There’s one specific photo I adore, not because it’s a masterpiece in terms of photography, but because of what happened while I was shooting it. It’s actually two shots, one of the groom and another of the bride. Let me break down the story behind these two photos: I was aiming to take a portrait of the groom. My usual move is to have them look at their partner while I work my magic. So, this time, he whispers, “Hey, I love you” with that look of adoration. When I turned back around, she had this big, beaming smile on her face…and my heart melted into a puddle. And that, my friends, is why I absolutely adore capturing these lovebirds on camera.

As a Professional Wedding Photographer in Copenhagen, I have the opportunity to meet many wonderful people coming from all around the world to get married in Denmark. This summer, I had the pleasure of photographing this amazing international couple who flew all the way from Ireland to elope in Copenhagen. Julia, the stunning woman you see in the photos, is originally from Brazil. She moved to Ireland a while back for her studies and that’s where she met Eamon, the handsome Irish guy standing right next to her.

Fun fact – just like Julia, I’m also from Brazil. Around ten years ago, my husband and I packed our bags and came to Europe. We’ve set up our life here, and now we have two girls who’ve fully embraced the Danish way of life – they spread a ton of butter on their rye bread every morning, they bike to school and they know how to “hygge it up”.

When Julia started planning her wedding in Copenhagen, she wanted to support the Brazilian community in Denmark. That’s how she found me. After the quick wedding ceremony at Amaliehaven, the three of us walked to Amalienborg Palace, Nyhavn and some nearby places to do some wedding portraits. Copenhagen was full of Danish fans wearing their red jerseys because later that day Denmark would play Czech Republic in the UEFA-Euro quarter-finals. Our stop in Nyhavn was a little bit intimidating for Diana and Fabien, as as you can imagine, all bars and restaurants along the canal were packed with fans drinking since eleven in the morning. So as our lovely couple posed for the photographer, fifteen guys were shouting and singing in the background. Romantic, right? But despite the football chaos, our wedding photo session in Copenhagen was a success. Her stunning bouquet of roses and orchids from Holly Flower Studio added a special touch to the photos. The connection between these two was palpable and so beautiful to see and photograph. I’m so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet them and be chosen as their elopement photographer in Copenhagen.

Last month, I accompanied this beautiful couple, as their wedding photographer to their city hall wedding in Copenhagen. As you can see in the photos, the bride was very pregnant. She was in the last month of her pregnancy, but that didn’t stop them to travel from Germany to Denmark to get married in Copenhagen.

The historical and stunning Copenhagen City Hall is a wonderful place to get married. The wedding ceremony is held in a beautiful and colourful wedding room covered by wall paintings. The ceremony lasts between five to ten minutes and after exchanging rings, kissing and signing the papers (not necessarily in that order!), couples are officially married.
After the wedding ceremony, bride and groom and the photographer can explore the city hall and find some beautiful spots for wedding portraits. Outside, at the City Hall Garden, you can enjoy a glass of Champagne. If you can’t find glasses and didn’t bring your own, as these two lovebirds, you can drink from the bottle.
